| As managing director, you dictate your hours, your pay and the people you work with |
That's the good news |
You're also responsible for cash flow, paying invoices, marketing, training, establishing systems, VAT, new legislation, providing sick leave...and, well you really don't want to hear anymore. Because as you know only too well, the list goes on, and on.

Of course, it's not fair |
You had the vision, the enthusiasm and the drive to set up your company. But now its not quite what it said in the brochure. You're totally focused on what you do best, and the specialist subjects like marketing, finance, human resources, IT are skills that you may not have, and the company isn't big enough to fund an executive team of that calibre.
Therefore, its little wonder then that being managing director of a small business is considered one of the loneliest places in business.
